Ah IKEA, the land of recent college graduates and families with rambunctious children. Almost everyone I know has purchased something from IKEA at one time or another. Whether it’s the classic EXPEDIT shelving or the cheap sheepskin rugs, the purchases can be loved for years to come… or immediately regretted. I have a mixture of the two in my apartment. Time for an IKEA Hack! Continue reading “DIY Gold Painted Lamps – HEMMA IKEA Hack”

Though it’s not Easter, I’ve still been noticing a trend in home decor for bunny decorations. Just one little item can add a lot of character to a simple room, like the fun bunny lamp with the rabbit ears popping out of the top. Unexpected and really adorable. I wanted to do a roundup of all of the items I had stumbled upon – partially for you to discover, and partially because I needed a place to keep them for my future purchasing abilities…
Obviously, I’ve been rocking this trend for a while now with a full blown rabbit art piece above my bed. My art teacher in college asked us to make an image out of sticks that could be our “life logo”, and then we were instructed to draw that stick logo in pencil. I chose to show myself as a tall bunny with all of my shorter bunny friends so only their ears would be showing, as if a photo had been taken and everyone else had been accidentally cut off. All of my senior year roommates in college were at least four inches shorter than me, I kid you not. My teacher thought it was so hilarious and asked if he could put it in the end of the year art show. It was really just an honest representation of my life, but I obviously allowed it, and realized that the last time that had happened was in kindergarten. I guess life really does run full circle? It turned out to be a cooler project than I initially judged it to be, and now it hangs proudly above my bed. It makes me happy, and I’ve decided that’s the only reason to have art at all.
Hope you are all having spectacular weeks! I just flew into Chicago this morning and can’t wait to cuddle up with my parent’s dog, Cedric, before running off to the city for a whirlwind trip with my friends. When I get back I’m itching for some redecoration though. Contemplating a makeover on my DIY Ikea bar, any suggestions?

Summer has arrived and I am ready for some new artwork around the house! I love switching decor up each season to keep things fresh. Vibrant colors and fruity patterns always speak to me during the hot Summer months. I saw this adorable pineapple print on Pinterest and wanted to make my own DIY geometric pineapple artwork. Happy Spring everyone! I love this season, mostly for the incredible weather, but also because I love cleaning. I love to purge and redecorate, so there’s always a project going on at my house at this time of year. Continue reading “How to Make a DIY Canvas Picture Frame for under $10”

This post should not be coming as any surprise, seeing as I told you I was totally gung ho about redecorating my new sofa with none other than fur pillows. They are all over the place in the stores, and I think that they give a really nice contrast in texture to a modern space. I shopped around and found some beautiful ones at Target, Pottery Barn, and Overstock, but none of them had removable pillow cases! There’s no way that furry pillow is not going to need a wash every once in a while… Continue reading “DIY Fur Pillow Cases”
A new year, a new set of decor! Well, sort of. I don’t have the funds to totally redo my entire apartment, so I am going to focus on small accent changes that will really give my place a new look. I did this a little last year too at the start of the year, and coming home to my apartment after two weeks in Chicago inspired me to brighten up the place again. Check out my list below, and get excited for some DIY’s!
#1. My new couch is coming TODAY! I will not recommend this store, since I had the worst time getting this couch on time (AKA it was quite late…and still isn’t technically here…), but I am really in love with the mid century modern style and quality… I suggest ordering online as the people there are much more helpful than in store.

#2. With a new couch comes loads more pillows. Though I love color, I have found that most everything I have purchased over the years has been in color, and it’s getting a little overwhelming. I am going to work on adding more black and white to the couch, and definitely some fur for texture!

#3. Is it wrong if I want paint all of my picture frames gold? And pretty much every other object I see? Seeing as gold is incredibly trendy and paint is cheap, I see a lot of gold DIY’s coming in the future. Also, I made this DIY art almost two years ago, but I think it’s time to add something new into the mix. I’m looking at creating some sort of art wall, potentially a stag head or some sort of gold leaf quote.

#4. I am going to commit to some succulents. I’ve wanted to buy them for so long but have been afraid I will kill them… but even if I do, they are only $3 and then hopefully I will learn how to keep them alive in the future? Hope and dreams of a non-gardener.

What do you all think? Any suggestions on how to organize, decorate, and overall improve my living space?
With Thanksgiving quickly approaching, I have been working on getting a menu prepared, drinks taste tested, and decor… well, I’m working on it. This year I am staying back in Houston and celebrating with a group of good, similarly money-minded friends (flights are crazy expensive!). Knowing this group, there will be plenty of football watching, cheery drinking, and experimentation on cooking. We’re ordering a turducken, and it’s quite intimidating… any tips anyone?
Since most focus goes into the food and there are plenty of people helping out with that, I’m trying to get creative with the decor this year! After much searching and thought, I’ve agreed that gold is best. It’s been trendy for a couple of years now in home decor, and there are so many inexpensive items that you can purchase or make to really gild your table to glittery perfection. Chargers in shimmery gold can be purchased at Michael’s for about $1.50 a piece. Old wine bottles can be covered in gold paint or glitter to hold fresh flowers. The frugal options are endless! Check out my list of DIY’s and inspirational photos to get excited about your table this year. Bonus: this theme works well for Christmas and New Years too!
These DIY gold and glitter bottles from Yahoo Makers are too easy and so glamorous. I love the greenery coming out of the tops too.

Martha always has good holiday ideas. These gold dipped pine cones could easily be used for place cards or just placed sporadically along a table runner for a rustic chic look.

It’s hard not to love these gold spray painted Christmas lights from Landee See Landee Do – I would leave these up all year! Strung along the center of the table or in some tall glass vases would make for a glimmering centerpiece.

I’m also really into these gold branches from Pop Sugar. Throw them in a clear vase, hang some ornaments on them, and you are ready to go!

Though I usually send invites out on Facebook for my events, I really like the idea of sending paper invitations for special occasions. These gold accented invites from Paperless Post really caught my eye!
