Each year for Thanksgiving, I alternate back and forth between going home to visit my family in Chicago and staying in Houston and hosting a Friendsgiving. This year, Kyle’s family is coming to town and we are hosting at his house! We spent the entire weekend menu planning, grocery shopping, and cleaning in anticipation, so I was happy I had figured out my plans for decorating a few weeks before!
I have to say, I was in a rut for Halloween costumes this year. Usually I start researching and brainstorming months in advance, but this year I was overwhelmed by so many other things that it was the last thing on my mind. When I realized I was in desperate need of Halloween inspiration, I turned to my three go-to’s:
Is there anything more fun than throwing a holiday themed party? This year for Halloween I decided to get my girl friends together for a night of pumpkin painting, creepy cocktails, and scary (or maybe not so scary) movie watching!
What is it about Halloween that is just so fun? Maybe we all like to be a little creeped out once in a while. I know I am the queen of listening to mystery podcasts, so I definitely fall into that boat. It might also be that sense of nostalgia from our childhood of dressing up and eating as much sugar as we wanted for one night. I seem to continue doing that into my adulthood too…
This past weekend one of my baking buddies (and overall good friend) got married to his best friend, Levi. They’re the type of people who are honestly friends with everyone, so the wedding was a huge assortment of friends and family from all over the country. It was casual, yet so personal, and Christian was sweet enough to ask me to bake their rehearsal dinner cake.

Lately it feels like balloons have made a comeback. Like, they were very cool when I was six and everyone got to bring a latex balloon home from a birthday party. After a long hiatus, it seems like balloons have become trendy. I’m pretty much obsessed with the balloon installations from Geronimo Balloons, and one of my fave DIY blogs, Sugar and Cloth, is always using them in shoots.
