There’s really nothing more romantic than white lace. It’s classic, feminine, and has a nice touch of detail without being fussy. A white lace skirt can be worn at multiple times of the year, making it the perfect closet staple. Styled casually with a chambray button up or dressy with a high neck black top, the possibilities are endless. Continue reading “Pleated Lace Skirt Sewing Tutorial”

Floral Summer Skirt Sewing Tutorial

Floral Summer Skirt Sewing Tutorial by Bunny Baubles 7

Summer in Houston is a sweaty time. Kyle and I went mini golfing last Saturday night and we thought, wow it feels really nice out… only to realize 15 minutes later that we were sweating profusely because it was still 85 DEGREES AT 11 PM. 6 AM, 10 PM, just accept it, you’ll be sweating. How to Fix the Tension on Your Sewing Machine

How to Fix the Tension on a Sewing Machine by Bunny Baubles 2

I’ll be the first to admit that as much as I love sewing, it can also be incredibly frustrating. The worst is when you start to sew a stitch, and then the thread bunches up and breaks. If this is happening to you, don’t have a panic attack and give up on your project! (I’ve been known to get overwhelmed by a struggle with my sewing machine in the past…) Your machine isn’t broken, you just need to adjust a few things. Open Back Pom Pom Trimmed Tank Sewing Tutorial

Open Back Tank with Pom Pom Trim Sewing Pattern 1

It’s amazing how something as childish as pom poms could really make a comeback in fashion, but they, along with their tassel sister, are taking over this Summer. A pom pom trimmed tank is just the item that is simple and comfortable enough to want to wear all the time, but special enough to look like you’re trying. This is especially true when it’s paired with a really spectacular fabric. Continue reading “Open Back Pom Pom Trimmed Tank Sewing Tutorial”

Off the Shoulder Ruffle Crop Top Sewing Tutorial

Off the Shoulder Ruffle Crop Top Sewing Tutorial by Bunny Baubles

I’ve been having a love affair with white tops this summer. I pretty much have exclusively paired a white tank, my white peplum, and white lace shirts with all of my skirts. White is fresh, crisp, and classic, so it’s no wonder it’s everyone’s closet staple. It also makes me look tan, and I love that about you, white. There are the classics in life: the LBD, the nude pump, the white button up. Then there are the classics in my closet: the black and white striped tee shirt, the black and white striped dress, and the black and white striped… you get the picture. 3 Summer Sewing DIYs for Beginners and Pros

Happy Friday and loooooong weekend, y’all! Since a Memorial Day is upon us, I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to share some Summer sewing DIY’s. I personally have a thousand ideas running through my brain right now. I accidentally bought fabric for four sewing projects the other day. I know, how can you accidentally buy something? Well, I went to a huge Joann’s out of town and their selection sent me into kid in a candy shop mode. It’s OK, I’ll share them all with y’all later.

Since some of us are varying degrees of skill level, or maybe just confidence, when it comes to sewing, I organized these projects by difficulty. By no means am I telling a new seamstress she can’t knock out all of these projects, but the certainty of success on the first try is higher on the simpler projects. I find that when you are learning a new skill it is nice to have some success to keep you motivated, so that’s why I try to stick to my skill level. Except when it comes to Lego’s, my brother and I always reached for the stars and bought the 12-14 when we were 7-9. Killin’ it.

I also tried to approximate how long each of the projects should take. The times have all been suggested without necessary tea and cookie breaks taken into account, however, so make sure you make time for those as well. Oh, and spend some time at the pool, y’all, it’s officially the Summer season! Do you have any Memorial Day plans? Let me know what DIY’s you are working on!

Floral Pencil Skirt

Difficulty: Easy

Time: 1 hour

This stretch pencil skirt is a staple in my closet that I wear from Spring through Fall. I love it in a floral print, but you could obviously use this same tutorial with any stretch fabric to make a skirt. Pair it with a white crop top, a pair of gladiators, and a straw hat for a weekend lunch with the girls.

Difficulty: Medium

Time: 3 hours

Though it looks complicated, making this ruffled off the shoulder dress is really quite simple, but does take a bit more time and patience. What’s best about this project is its versatility. You can wear it as a great cover up for the beach or for shopping on a Saturday afternoon. I love wearing mine on the fourth of July, seersucker is so patriotic in my mind!

Chartreuse Pleated Skirt

Difficulty: Medium-Hard

Time: 3-4 hours

I labeled this as medium-hard mostly because there is a zipper installation required, but the actual construction of the skirt is straight forward once you iron down the pleats. I love the bright color of this skirt paired sweetly with a white tank or a chambray shirt. It can also be transitioned to a night out with a black top and heels.

Off the Shoulder Maxi Dress Sewing Tutorial

I remember the first time I wore a maxi dress. I walked into my college lunch room and was asked by a guy friend why I was wearing a gown. I busted out laughing thinking, I literally threw this on because I didn’t have to match any pieces of clothing together. But the more I thought about it, maxi dresses really set you up for success. They require zero thinking and make you look like you have your life together. You also appear ten feet tall, and are essentially wrapped in a blanket. Win win win win. Continue reading “Off the Shoulder Maxi Dress Sewing Tutorial”
