5 Sewing Bloggers You Should be Following

Happy Friday y’all! Though I don’t have any sewing tidbits to share today, I do have a wealth of knowledge when it comes to sewing blogs that you HAVE to check out. Every creative person needs inspiration in their life, and these ladies are always coming up with adorable projects that get me thinking and sewing!

Check out these blogs and some of my favorite posts from each of them:

1. Merrick’s Art

Merrick writes one of my favorite blogs of all time! I am always looking out for her original sewing projects that seem to come out on a weekly basis. All of her projects have simple instructions that are displayed in a similar format to mine, so if you read along with Bunny Baubles you will LOVE this site. She also has the most adorable family, so look forward to that too.

My favorite projects from Merrick’s Art have been the pink scalloped hem dress, the lime lace pencil dress, and the pom pom beach shorts.

2. A Pair & A Spare

This Aussie throws together a DIY outfit in 10 minutes flat, no lie. Geneva makes the simplest projects, giving you the confidence to try any of them. She also has a fantastic travel diary of the eastern hemisphere that I drool over weekly.

My favorite projects from A Pair & A Spare have been the DIY Lace Up Dress, the Off the Shoulder Beach Dress, and the Bow Party Heels.

3. Elle Apparel

After seeing the Modern Girls Guide to Sewing on Merrick’s blog, I learned about her friend Leanne. Her site dons tons of fashionable buyable pieces, with DIY’s strewn throughout.

My favorite projects from Elle Apparel have been the flutter shift dress, the kimono, and the kimono dress.

4. Life is Beautiful

I just came upon this blog, and all I have to say is, “IS SHE KIDDING ME?!”. Sarah’s transformation of the worst garments into the cuteset ones is beyond incredible.

To see what I mean, check out her refashion of a denim dress into a jumpsuit, the refashion of a grandma vintage dress, and the transformation of a men’s leather jacket into a purse.

5. Studio DIY

So Kelly might not necessarily be a seamstress, but she does make the BEST Halloween costumes every year. You need this blog on your Pinterest list for the holidays, so I’m sharing it with you now.

Her best costumes, in my opinion, have been her DIY Pineapple, the DIY Pizza Slice and Delivery Boy, and DIY Lisa Frank characters (this is where my inspiration for the Rainbow Angel Kitty came from!).

How to add pockets to a dress sewing pattern DIY

“Pockets make everything better”, said everyone every day everywhere. Have you ever been on the fence about buying a dress, but then the moment you find out it has pockets are 100% committed to buying it? I’m guilty. Continue reading “It’s Sew Easy: How to Add Pockets to a Dress Sewing Tutorial”

It’s Sew Easy: 10 Essential Sewing Tools

Essential Sewing Supplies with Bunny Baubles Blog 1

This week’s It’s Sew Easy is a little different from previous posts because we’re not going to be doing any sewing. As an experienced seamstress, I thought it would be helpful to you all if I shared the tools I use on a daily basis for my projects. Obviously, some people may have other necessary tools in their boxes, but these are the ones that I have found to be the most useful and all that I use in my tutorials. Scalloped Kimono Beach Cover Up Sewing Tutorial

Scalloped Kimono Cover Up by Bunny Baubles Blog

Though beach cover ups are completely unnecessary since clothing or a large towel also suffice for covering your body on your way to the beach, they can be a lot of fun. It’s nice to have something that can be thrown on and taken off simply, while lightly covering you up from the sun just in case you need some shade during the day. Kimono’s were all over the place last year, and it seems that we haven’t seen the last of them yet. I had plans to travel with my family to a resort in Arizona this year for Spring break, so I decided I needed this poolside staple in my suitcase! It’s Sew Easy: Adding a Snap to a Wrap Top Sewing Tutorial

How to Add a Snap to a Top by Bunny Baubles Blog

Things I love: rompers. Things I don’t love: holding the neckline of my romper closed any time I bend over, move, or a passing breeze comes by. Let’s be honest with ourselves, if something is difficult or uncomfortable to wear, we will not wear it. It’s Sew Easy: How to Create A Ruffle Sewing Tutorial

It's Sew Easy: How To Create a Ruffle by Bunny Baubles Blog 1

Just adding a ruffle to the sleeve of a dress or the bottom of your shirt as a peplum can take a plain outfit and make it completely special. I love that this girly shape can be used in so many ways, and is so simple to make! Though there are many ways to create a ruffle, I find that this one is the simplest. How to Style Your DIY Wardrobe on Vacation!

I recently went on an amazing spring break trip to Arizona with my family. We somehow seemed to cover so much ground while still getting in some quality relaxing time. The highlights included visiting Taliesin, a Frank Lloyd Wright home and studio, barbecuing with family, traveling to Sedona to see the gorgeous scenery, hiking at the Grand Canyon, attending a Cubs training game, and just relaxing by the pool with my family!

But I digress, this is a packing post.

You may wonder how many of the pieces I make on my blog I actually wear frequently. The answer is, most of them all the time! Since I am making my own clothing, I am able to make it exactly the way I want it and to fit comfortably. This makes my homemade DIY pieces some of my favorite ones! Not to mention, it takes quite a bit of time to make each piece, so I have a deep sense of requirement to wear them every once in a while.

I packed quite a few of my DIY pieces for my trip to Arizona, so I thought I would share them with you and how I styled them to work with my travels.

Packing for Spring Break - DIY Addition 1

I sported this DIY off-the-shoulder seersucker dress to the Cubs game with my red Longchamp bag since it was the perfect pairing of red and blue to root on my hometown team! The bag was perfect for carrying my camera and other items, while the dress and the Lucky Brand hat (similar) provided a breezy cover from the sun. The sandals are by Steve Madden (similar).

For casual strolls around the resort I styled my DIY  seersucker peplum top with American Eagle jean shorts (similar) and comfy Birkenstock sandals. I also brought along my trusty Rebecca Minkoff bag (similar) with DIY tassel charm for a bit of fun, and to carry my wallet so I could pick up souvenirs along the way!

When lounging by the pool, I always brought along my new DIY scalloped kimono cover up to keep me warm in the morning breeze over my Victoria’s Secret suit.

The most versatile piece I brought with me was this DIY black maxi skirt that was great in the cool mornings when we would go get coffee on the patio. Paired with my striped Gap sweater (similar), this also made a great travel outfit for sleeping on the plane. The sunglasses are from Nordstrom.
