When it comes to the holidays, the uniform involves jeans, black leggings, and all of the warmest sweaters I own. This is fine for movie watching and cooking baking, but when I want to dress up a little and also not freeze my bum off, there aren’t really that many great options. I wanted to make something a little more fun and festive to bring home with me to Chicago, so I dug up some leftover stretch velvet I had from a project last Winter and got to drafting a pattern!

My DIY Thanksgiving Table
Each year for Thanksgiving, I alternate back and forth between going home to visit my family in Chicago and staying in Houston and hosting a Friendsgiving. This year, Kyle’s family is coming to town and we are hosting at his house! We spent the entire weekend menu planning, grocery shopping, and cleaning in anticipation, so I was happy I had figured out my plans for decorating a few weeks before!

Things that I did not expect to happen at this point in time in my life: to be celebrating friends having babies and to use my childhood stuffed animal as a prop in blog photos. New surprises every day, I tell you. My sweet friend Lisa is expecting twins and our friend group could not be more excited. I’m finally moved into my new apartment and getting to decorate it DIY style! Well… the style is more of a mid-century meets California meets bachelorette pad, but I love when people can come in, ask where I got something, and I can tell them I made it! Having DIY home decor pieces really makes a home feel unique and give it a personal flair. Most of the time people think of home decor DIY’s as something that looks really homemade and crafty, but these pom pom trimmed sheer curtains are totally chic!
Easy DIY Belted Off the Shoulder Dress with Ruffle Hem
Ah summertime. All I want to wear is blue and white and pastels and whatever fabric I can get my hands on that is as thin as possible without being see through. Oh, and off the shoulder everything. I will never get tired of making off the shoulder dresses for three separate reasons:
- They are so so so cute. I love the flirty fit and they are really comfortable without being too casual.
- They are also so so so easy to make. In the way that I create them with two separate sleeves that attach to a bodice, there is pretty much nothing to the fit. In other words, it will always fit the first time around which is a huge win in saving you from seam ripping for hours.
- I love how the sleeves never creep up your shoulders using the pattern I use. Because the sleeves are separately attached below your arm pits, they will never end up annoyingly on top of your shoulders.
