The air was a brisk 66 degrees the other morning here in Houston. AKA, sweater/scarf/down comforter weather! (We are weaklings in the cold and we know it.) Not only did I break out the sweaters for work, I’ve gone so far as to purchase fleece fabric and make the best cuddling blanket of all time. Big enough to wrap up in twice or share with a buddy, this pom pom fleece blanket is perfect for the frozen weather. Continue reading “DIY Pom Pom Fleece Blanket”

Leather Mini Skirt Sewing Tutorial
This Fall is full of fashion trends I’m scrambling to add to my closet:
#1. Burgundy/Bordeaux/Maroon/whatever you want to call that color. Love it.
#2. Anything and everything 70’s inspired. Think flared jeans, suede minis, and fringe.
#3. Leather items – again, mostly the 70’s inspired ones.
Trying to be trendy and overly excited, I’ve managed to fit all three trends into this one look… Too much? Continue reading “Leather Mini Skirt Sewing Tutorial”
Fri-DIY: Cute DIY Halloween Costumes
It’s officially October and Halloween is less than a month away! EEEK! I have no costume yet, nor a solid idea of what I want to be… but I know I’m going to DIY it. I just love homemade costumes. Not only can you be whatever you want to be on Halloween, you can personalize it to fit yourself when you make it. The store bought ones tend to be kind of lame or kind of trashy and definitely kind of pricey – what’s that about?
Like I said, I don’t know what I’m going to go with this year, but I can’t wait to share the DIY with y’all once I figure it out! I figured I would put together a list of some simple homemade costume ideas that are cute (not sexy, ugh) and original so you guys can get started. Have you decided what you’re going to be yet?
1. Flapper Girl – Fringe, pearls, glitter, done.
2. Rabbit from Alice in Wonderland – The only way I can think of to dress as a bunny without feeling completely uncomfortable.
3. The Morton’s Salt Girl – She’s so cute, and you could totally make the salt into a purse for all of your necessities…just saying.
4. Pinata – Is this super simple? No. Is it super fun and adorable? YES.
5. A Pineapple – Not only are they super trendy right now, I just think this is hilarious.
6. Ice Cream – Can you tell that I’m hungry? But really, this is the most elegant ice cream cone I’ve ever seen.
Transitional Floral Pencil Skirt Sewing Tutorial
I’m always looking for pieces to add to my closet that can transition over multiple seasons. The trick is finding colors and patterns that aren’t too specific to one season. Although most floral prints are only appropriate for the Spring time, I found a great one at Joann’s that included darker purples and greens that work really well with the earthy tones that the Fall is known for. Fri-DIY: Lace Love

I am beyond obsessed with quality DIY sewing blogs. Women who make fashionable pieces by hand, especially awesome, simple items, are my constant inspiration. I’ve been following Geneva from A Pair and A Spare for a while now, and she puts together detailed tutorials for beautiful clothes I always want to make!
While scrolling through her projects, I stumbled across this lace pencil skirt and instantly put it on my sewing to-do list. Simple, sexy, and surprisingly versatile, I am pumped to try this project out. Let me know if you try this project or any of the other’s on her site this weekend! WARNING: You will be sucked in by the amazing projects you will find on this site… Happy weekend bunnies!
Seersucker Off the Shoulder Summer Dress Sewing Tutorial
There’s nothing like stepping out into the Summer sun and feeling the deep heat radiate on to your shoulders. I may be one of the only crazy ones, but I love feeling the wall of humid heat here in Houston hit me as I leave the house. Maybe it’s the stark contrast to the frozen air conditioned spaces that we confine ourselves to, or maybe it’s just that the heat relaxes me into a sense of vacation, but I love it just the same. Sparkles and Roses Cake Decorating Tutorial
Great Gatsby screams decadence. The more expensive flair, jewels, pearls, glitter, alcohol, and craziness the better. Since all birthdays center around cakes for me, I volunteered for another double decker creation for Megan’s birthday that I wanted to go all out on. I found a picture on Pinterest of a gorgeous cake from a Wuthering Heights themed wedding, and Megan loved it…with the exception of the big pink flowers. Easy 20’s Flapper Dress Costume DIY Sewing Tutorial
So you all saw the pictures from Megan’s Great Gatsby birthday party which was one serious shindig. Megan had been planning to do a 20’s themed party for a while and picked up a fantastic flapper dress at H&M around Christmas time. Thinking it would be oh so simple to find a dress like she did, I waited until the day before the party to go shopping. I was not so lucky.
